The location for ChemCH2018 is Bucharest, a city with a strong international profile, which continues to redefine itself, merging its storied history with a modern identity. Bucharest has a rich and varied cultural history from its medieval past to the contemporary art scene that has transformed some of its former industrial areas and surprises many first-time visitors with its unique and evocative aesthetic, cosmopolitan vibe and energy.
The Conference venue is Central University Library of Bucharest, one of the most beautiful buildings in Bucharest. Opened in 1895, it was built on the land bought by King Carol I of Romania for the “Carol I University Foundation” (Fundaţia Universitară Carol I) and designed by French architect Paul Gottereau. During the events of 1989, a fire was started in the building and over 500,000 books were destroyed. With the help of Federico Mayor, general director of UNESCO, not only that the building was reconstructed and modernized, but also the book fund was mainly reconstituted. The library was reopened in 2001 and hosted some of the most important conferences and events in the intellectual area.
